Spring was in full bloom and the deep sweet aroma of the linden trees, with their white furry blossoms, enveloped us. \u00a0We are in the home stretch of my husband Dick&#8217;s, sabbatical year before we return to Boston. \u00a0He is at the Free University finishing up his project and Berlin is also home(for the past 10 years) to our younger son Alex.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3000\" title=\"IMG_9097\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_9097-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_9097-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_9097-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although it is coming to the end of their season, thick white \u00a0asparagus(<em>sparge<\/em>l) bundles are still prominent in \u00a0grocery stores and outdoor markets and the little pop-up stalls shaped like strawberries and selling the \u00a0local\u00a0<em>erdbeere<\/em> dot the streets and entrances to the train stations all over the city.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2998\" title=\"IMG_8774\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8774-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8774-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8774-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8774.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2999\" title=\"IMG_8814\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_88141-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_88141-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_88141-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>White asparagus are often served with a hollandaise sauce alongside boiled potatoes sprinkled with parsley and a crispy piece of schnitzel.<br \/>\nAt home we have been enjoying them boiled and served warm or cold in a herbed vinaigrette. \u00a0The strawberries are sweet and wonderful as is, however \u00a0rhubarb is also in season so I couldn&#8217;t resist making strawberry rhubarb sauce which we spoon over vanilla ice cream with a sprinkling of crunchy muesli (aka granola)&#8211;nightly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3001\" title=\"IMG_8776\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8776-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8776-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_8776-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And speaking of night, it\u00a0stays light well past 9 PM. \u00a0Here is what 9PM looks like from our wonderful rooftop apartment in the Schoneberg district.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3002\" title=\"IMG_0260\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0260-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0260-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.cookingatdebras.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_0260-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This apartment has a large light filled kitchen with a wall of glass doors &#8211;
